John & Margaret

Paul, Tania & Thomas Tanner

We are members of Poulner Baptist Chapel, but currently live in Gloucester at Redcliffe College. We were married in 2008 and have one son, Thomas, born in June 2010.

For a number of years we have felt called to missionary service overseas which has led us into several short term mission trips outside the UK and for both of us to study at Redcliffe College (Centre for Mission Training) in Gloucester (www.redcliffe.org). Paul currently manages the IT and website for the college. We are members of Serving In Mission (SIM - www.sim.co.uk) and are preparing to go to Africa as long-term missionaries.

Following a vision trip to Botswana, we believe God is calling us to serve on a secondment basis with Flying Mission Care (FMC - www.flyingmission.org). Botswana itself is a beautiful and stable country but one that faces the enormous challenges of HIV/AIDS (2nd highest prevalence in the world), a lack of deep Bible teaching and a predominance of churches that blend traditional beliefs with Christian teaching.  FMC provides intervention against the spread of HIV/AIDS by encouraging people to live lives of character. They do this through partnering with and providing training and assistance to groups involved in HIV/AIDS related ministries, by teaching life skills (including a school based programme that equips youth to make good decisions) and through discipleship.

We are passionate to see people come into a saving knowledge of and relationship with Christ and feel it is essential that we do this by caring for the whole person, demonstrating Gods love practically as well as sharing the Gospel and discipling people.

Paul has accepted a role as a Capacity Building Coordinator, involving HIV/AIDS (orphan and vulnerable children projects, education, home based care, and hospice care).  Tania has been asked to be involved in Early Childhood Development and developing pre-school curriculum materials.  We hope that the relationships we develop will open up opportunities also for discipling and mentoring.
