Yes, that’s right, mankind, and that includes you and me, mess up big time.
Humanly speaking I would be tempted to wipe us out and start again. However He didn’t! God intervened in a dramatic way. For justice to be meted out to account for our accumulated failure (biblical term is sin) only a perfect sacrifice would do. Hence, Christ’s death on a cross! All we have to do is accept what Jesus has done for us and ask Him to take charge of our lives, accept the minor injustices that we suffer and appreciate fully the greatest injustice of all: that of Christ Jesus nearly 2000 years ago.
The oil spill will be capped and the environment cleaned up. But God’s offer of a pardon will remain until Christ’s return.
