It’s a dark, threatening and dangerous world and it would only be human to feel discouraged. Yet we shouldn’t and we mustn’t! There is GOOD NEWS too. Let me try to explain. It was not the rock’s fault that the ship foundered. Yet, in the darkness, cold, and terror onboard we hear of individual acts of courage and sacrifice. For example the young man who offered his body as a bridge over which others could scramble to safety comes to mind.

No doubt there were many similar examples too. The Bible has much to say on the subject of rescue. In Colossians chapter 1 verses 13 & 14 the apostle Paul encourages the Christians under attack in Colosse with these words: “For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

The Good News is that those words equally apply to us today. No matter how chaotic and threatening the world appears there is the promise of rescue for those who have put their trust in Christ.
